Getting pregnant is a very important phenomenon in a woman’s life and therefore requires special attention. Menstruation usually comes every month in a woman who is not expecting a baby. But is it possible to have your period while being pregnant?
Can you have your period while pregnant?
Your menstruation, or period, occurs each month when an egg has not been fertilized. Eggs are produced once a month and when they are not fertilized, they come out in the form of bleeding. In principle, when you are pregnant you no longer have your period since there is no longer any egg production. But there is often some confusion since many people claim to have had their periods during pregnancy. Periods only happen when you’re not pregnant, so if you have bleeding during pregnancy it’s probably related to things other than your period.
Causes of bleeding during pregnancy
You may experience spotting-like bleeding or light discharge that is different from your period. Often, the most common cause of bleeding during pregnancy is implantation bleeding. This bleeding often occurs in the first days of pregnancy. It occurs when the egg is implanted in the uterus, this bleeding generally occurs when your period should come. It is much lighter than the rules but is often confused with them. Besides implantation bleeding, there are several other phenomena that could be causes of bleeding during your pregnancy. These could be: infections, ectopic pregnancy or even miscarriage. If you are sure that you are pregnant but you have heavy bleeding like during your period, do not hesitate to consult a doctor.
